Safari won’t load a page on Mac? Find out what is blocking it

The short answer

Try a second website in Safari, then open the failing page in a private window. If the page works there, check extensions or remove only that site’s stored data. If multiple sites fail in Safari and in another browser on the same Mac, check the network connection first.

Reload the page, try a different site, then try the original page in another browser on the same Mac if one is installed. If only the original site fails everywhere, try it from another network or ask the site operator whether there is a problem. If several sites fail across browsers on this Mac, try a different network before changing Safari settings.

02Compare a private and a normal window

In Safari, choose File → New Private Window and open the page again. Compare the same action in both windows, including signing in if that is where it fails. If the page works privately, go to Safari → Settings → Extensions and temporarily turn extensions off, then enable them individually to identify a conflict. Also check Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data. Remove only the affected site if you can sign back in afterward.

03Check settings that apply to this website

For a site that is blank or missing parts, check its settings under Safari → Settings → Websites. For example, test whether turning off Content Blockers for that site restores the missing content, then return the setting to your preference. If you use iCloud Private Relay and trust the site, View → Reload and Show IP Address is a temporary test when the option is available. The site can see your IP address during the test.

04If several sites fail in Safari only

Check for macOS updates, which can include Safari updates, and restart the Mac. If the issue persists on a managed Mac, ask IT about VPN or web filtering rules. If a single site still fails, report the exact URL, what failed and whether it also failed in a private window or another browser.
