Open Google Authenticator on the new phone and check the Google Account shown under the profile icon. If you synced the codes, sign in to the same account inside the app. If the codes were stored only on the old phone, transfer them before you erase or trade in that phone.
01Check the account inside Authenticator
Section linkTap the profile icon on the new phone. If you used a different Google Account to save codes, select that account or add it. Check for the service and username you expect. Avoid deleting entries during this check. Deleting a synced entry also removes it from the other devices that sync it.
02If the old phone still shows the codes, transfer them
Section linkIn Authenticator on the old phone, open Menu → Transfer codes → Export codes. The iPhone app may say Transfer accounts and Export accounts. Select the entries and continue to the QR code. On the new phone, open the corresponding Import option and scan the QR code directly. If the old app generates more codes to scan, scan each one. Keep the QR codes private.
03If the old phone is gone and the codes were stored locally
Section linkUse a backup code, passkey, or another sign-in method the affected service already offers for your account. Once signed in, use that service’s security settings to set up Authenticator on the new phone and remove the old setup as directed. If you are locked out, use the service’s own recovery process or contact your work or school administrator.
04Check access before giving up the old phone
Section linkKeep an existing signed-in session open while you try a fresh sign-in to an important service with a code from the new phone. Check the account name before entering the code. Repeat for the services you rely on before erasing the old phone.
