Android device isn’t Play Protect certified? Check the model first

The short answer

In the Play Store, tap your profile icon and go to Settings → About to check Play Protect certification. If the device shows as uncertified, look up your exact model on Google’s certified devices list. Turning off Play Protect scanning will leave the certification issue in place.

01Check the exact model

Section link

Open the certified devices list from Google Play Help. Search for the model identifier from your device settings, because a retail name can cover several variants. If your model is absent, contact the manufacturer or seller. If it is listed and the Store still reports an issue, tap Fix device issue if the button is available.

02Follow the message on a listed device

Section link

If the message mentions a network problem, retry on a stable connection. If it says Google Play services is out of date, update it. If there is no specific cause, check for Android system and security updates. Restart the device and check its certification status again.

03Get model-specific help for a modified device

Section link

If the message mentions an unlocked bootloader, root access or a modified system, contact the manufacturer for instructions for that exact device. Back up your files before a reset or system restore. On a used device with an unknown software history, ask the seller what was changed before attempting a restore.

04Report a warning that persists

Section link

If your model is listed and the warning returns after the checks, contact the manufacturer with the model identifier, Android version and wording of the warning. Google also accepts feedback about unexpected certification alerts from your profile in Android Settings, where available.
