WhatsApp Verification Code Not Arriving? Check the Number and Timer

The short answer

Check the country code and number in WhatsApp, then ask someone to send a regular SMS and call that exact number. If both arrive, wait for the timer in WhatsApp to finish before requesting another SMS or using the call option, if shown.

01Check which number will receive the code

Select the country for your phone number and check the full number displayed by WhatsApp. If you use two SIMs, check that the line you entered is active. An internet connection lets WhatsApp request the code. Your mobile line still needs to receive the SMS or voice call.

02Use the on-screen countdown

Section link

Wait for the countdown to finish before trying again. When the app offers another SMS or a phone call, choose the method you can receive. For an automated voice call, check whether your phone silences unknown callers. Enter the code in WhatsApp and keep it private. Guessing the code can cause a temporary lockout.

03Check for an email option if you are signing in again

Section link

An existing account may offer a code by email if you previously added and verified that email address. Use that option if WhatsApp displays it. If WhatsApp has accepted the registration code and now asks for your two-step verification PIN or password, follow the instructions on that screen.

04Use the test SMS and call to decide whom to contact

Section link

If regular texts or calls do not arrive, check reception and contact your mobile carrier about that line. If both tests pass but WhatsApp still cannot register the number, update WhatsApp and use its official support path. Check for an accessible chat backup before uninstalling the app.
