Open Settings > Network & internet and check the Ethernet status. If it says Not connected, reseat the cable at both ends and try another cable or router LAN port. If Ethernet shows Connected but websites do not load, compare with Wi-Fi or another device on the same router.
01If Windows does not see the wired connection
Section linkUse a LAN port on the router. Leave the port marked Internet or WAN for the connection to the modem or upstream network. If you use a dock and the PC has a built-in Ethernet port, try that port directly. Change one component at a time to see which swap restores the connection.
02If Ethernet connects but the internet does not
Section linkOn the affected PC, temporarily turn off Wi-Fi to check that the test really uses Ethernet. Open more than one familiar website. If another device on the same router also has no internet, check the router or ask your internet provider. If only this PC fails, run the Network and Internet troubleshooter in Get Help.
03If the Ethernet adapter is missing
Section linkLook in Device Manager > Network adapters for the wired adapter. If the problem started after an update or the adapter shows an error, download the driver for your exact PC or adapter from its manufacturer before changing drivers. Use network reset as a last resort because it resets adapter settings and may require setting up VPN software again.
