Wi-Fi option missing in Windows 11? Check the wireless adapter

The short answer

Open Settings → Network & internet. If Wi-Fi itself is missing, open Device Manager and look under Network adapters. Enable the wireless adapter if it is disabled. If Windows shows a warning or does not list the adapter, check the driver for your exact PC or adapter model.

01Check whether Windows offers Wi-Fi at all

Turn off Airplane mode and check the wireless switch if your laptop has one. Look for Wi-Fi in Settings as well as Quick Settings. If the Wi-Fi page is present and you can see other networks, focus on the network name you cannot find. If the Wi-Fi page itself is absent, continue with the adapter checks.

02Use Device Manager to choose the next step

Right-click Start, open Device Manager, and expand Network adapters. Look for the wireless adapter by name. If its context menu shows Enable device, select it. If the adapter shows a warning, open Properties and note the message under Device status. If Windows lists the adapter without a warning, press Windows + R, enter services.msc, and try restarting WLAN AutoConfig if you have permission. Then check Settings again.

03Get a compatible driver before removing anything

If the Wi-Fi option disappeared after a recent driver update and the adapter is still listed, open Properties → Driver and use Roll Back Driver if it is available and you have administrator access. If the adapter is missing or has a driver error, get the Windows 11 wireless driver from the manufacturer’s support page for your exact model. Use Ethernet or another device and a USB drive if necessary. Keep that installer before uninstalling a driver, so you have a fallback if Windows cannot reinstall it.

04Escalate with the details you found

Section link

Restart after installing the driver and check Device Manager and Settings again. If Windows still cannot see an adapter that the PC is supposed to have, give the PC maker or your IT team the model, any Device Manager message, and when the option disappeared. Save Network reset for later. It resets network adapter settings and may require you to set up VPN or virtual networking software again.
