In the affected Chrome profile, select Verify it’s you → Sign in again and sign in to your Google Account. If sync pauses again after you quit Chrome, check whether that profile keeps on-device site data.
01Resume sync in the affected profile
Section linkOpen Chrome on your computer and look at the profile icon near the top right. Use the profile where sync is paused, especially if you keep work and personal browsing separate. Google notes that signing out of a Google service such as Gmail can pause Chrome sync. Use the sign-in prompt in Chrome to resume it.
02Check what Chrome does when you quit
Section linkIn that profile, open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Additional content settings → On-device site data. If Chrome is set to delete site data when you close all windows, Google recommends choosing Allow sites to save data on your device to keep sync on.
03Decide if you want to keep site data
Section linkAllowing site data can keep website sessions and other data, such as a shopping cart, between visits. If you intentionally clear site data when you quit a shared computer, you may prefer to keep that setting and sign in again when you need sync.
04Test by quitting and reopening Chrome
Section linkAfter you sign in, quit Chrome and reopen the same profile. Check whether the profile still asks you to verify your identity. If the site data setting is locked on a work or school profile, share the symptom and the setting you found with your administrator.
