Android Phone Not Charging? Check the Cable, Port and Screen

The short answer

If you see a moisture warning, unplug the cable and wait until the port is dry. Otherwise, try a compatible cable and adapter in a working wall outlet. Swap the cable and adapter separately so you can see which change makes charging resume.

01Check the plug, case and outlet

Remove a case that keeps the plug from seating fully. Test the outlet with a lamp and check whether the charger and cable can power another compatible device. Try a known working cable with your phone, then a known working adapter. Look for lint or damage with a light. Avoid probing the port with a pin. If the connector is loose or visibly damaged, have it inspected.

02Follow the moisture or accessory warning

On Galaxy, the water-drop icon means wired charging is blocked while moisture is detected. Leave the phone unplugged in a ventilated place until the port is dry. If you see a charging accessory warning on Pixel, try a compatible charger and cable. On a dry phone that supports wireless charging, a successful wireless test helps narrow the issue to the wired charging path.

03If the phone shows no sign of charging

A deeply discharged phone can take time to display a charging icon. Leave it connected to the working wall charger and follow the waiting time in your model’s support guide. If the display stays blank, call the phone from another device. If it rings while the screen stays dark, ask the manufacturer about a display check.

04If charging starts but is slow

Stop playing games or streaming while you test and let the phone return to room temperature if it is hot or cold. Compare the battery level again with the screen off. On a Galaxy with Samsung Members installed, open Support and look for Phone diagnostics to check cable charging or battery status. If known working accessories still fail, tell support which combinations worked and whether you saw a warning.
