Chrome extension disabled or not working? Check its status

The short answer

In desktop Chrome, open More → Extensions → Manage extensions and read the message on the extension’s card. If the switch is simply off, turn it on if you still trust the extension. Use Repair if Chrome reports corruption. If Chrome says it is unsupported, look for a supported replacement.

01If the extension is turned off or damaged

Try the switch for an extension you know and use. If Chrome offers Repair, read the prompt and confirm if you still want the extension. If the same corruption warning comes back, investigate the cause before trying again. An icon that disappeared from the toolbar can still belong to an enabled extension; check the Extensions menu before reinstalling.

02If Chrome says unsupported or managed

For an unsupported extension, look for Find Alternatives in its details, or search the Chrome Web Store for a supported replacement. Review the permissions before installing it. If the message points to your organization, open chrome://management to see whether Chrome is managed. Ask your administrator which extension is approved for that task.

03If the switch is on but one site does not work

Section link

Open Details for the extension and look at its site access. An extension set to run only when selected may need you to click its icon on the affected page. If it needs ongoing access and supports access to that site, grant it for that site and retest before considering broader permissions.
