Bluetooth Won’t Pair on Android? Check Whether the Device Appears

The short answer

Put the accessory in pairing mode and look for its name in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. If it is already saved, tap its name to reconnect. If it does not appear at all, disconnect it from any nearby device that may have connected to it and try pairing again.

01Find a device that has never paired

Charge the accessory and check its manual for the pairing signal. Turning it on may be a separate step. On Pixel, open Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. On Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth and look under Available devices. Tap the accessory when it appears.

02Pair a previously saved device again

Section link

If tapping the saved name does not reconnect it, tap the gear beside its name. Choose Forget on Pixel or Unpair on Galaxy. Turn Bluetooth off and back on, put the accessory back in pairing mode, and select it as a new device.

03Check which device is causing the problem

Try the accessory with another compatible phone, then try a different Bluetooth accessory with your phone. If only the original accessory fails on both phones, check its manual or contact its maker. If several accessories fail with your phone, restart it and run Bluetooth diagnostics on Pixel if available, or the Bluetooth test in Samsung Members on Galaxy.
