In desktop Word with modern comments, select Comments in the upper right to open the list of threads. The contextual view hides resolved comments. The full list includes both active and resolved threads.
01Find the thread in the Comments pane
Section linkOn desktop, you can also open Review → Show Comments and select List view if your version shows that menu. Select the thread to see its anchor in the document. If you want to resume the discussion, reopen the resolved thread from the list. You can read a resolved thread without reopening it.
02Check that the comment was posted
Section linkIf you can see a comment while typing but a collaborator cannot, look for the Post button on your draft. Word keeps that draft private until you post it. For example, if a teammate says they left a note on the budget paragraph, ask them to confirm they clicked Post and that you’re both in the same copy of the document.
03Use the Comments pane if the margin is crowded
Section linkOpen the list to check whether the comments themselves are present. If revision balloons are taking up space, desktop Word also documents Review → Show Markup → Balloons → Show All Revisions Inline. Use that if you want to move revisions into the document text. Windows, Mac and web versions can place these controls differently.
