iPhone Live Photo sent as a still? Keep the motion when sharing

The short answer

Open the original in Photos and press and hold to check that it moves. Apple Mail sends Live Photos as still images. To share the motion with someone whose app or device cannot play Live Photos, open the original and choose More > Save as Video.

If you send a Live Photo through Messages to a compatible iPhone or iPad, ask the recipient to open the image and then press and hold it. The thumbnail in the conversation may look like an ordinary photo. Mail sends a still, and a device or service without Live Photo support can also receive a still image.

03Send a video copy when motion matters

Section link

In Photos, open the original Live Photo, tap More in the top-right corner, then choose Save as Video. Find the new clip in Recently Saved, play it to check the motion, and share the clip. The original remains in Live Photos. For example, you can attach the video to an email if it fits the service’s attachment limit.
