How to keep a Word table row from splitting across pages

The short answer

In desktop Word, select the affected row, then right-click and open Table Properties → Row. Clear Allow row to break across pages. A row that fits on a page can then move together to the next page when there is too little room below it.

01Apply the change to the right rows

Click inside the row you want to keep together, or select several rows that need the same setting. In Table Properties, open Row, clear Allow row to break across pages and select OK. Look at the page boundary in Print Layout to check where the row moved.

02Decide how to handle a tall row

A gap at the bottom of the previous page can be the space the row could not fit into. If a single row is taller than the usable page, consider splitting the content into shorter rows or allowing that particular row to break. Check the preview again after changing it.

03Repeat the headings as the table continues

Select the heading rows starting with the first row of the table. On Table Layout, select Repeat Header Rows. Check the next page in Print Layout or print preview. Word repeats headings at automatic page breaks. A manual page break inserted inside the table prevents the automatic repeat there.
