How to delete a blank page in Google Docs

The short answer

In Google Docs on a computer, select View → Show non-printing characters. Look on the blank page and at the end of the preceding page. Remove only the empty paragraphs or manual page break that push the document onto an extra page.

01Delete the extra mark, then check what moves

If you see empty paragraph marks, select just the empty lines and delete them. If you see a manual page break, put the cursor immediately after it and press Backspace, or the Delete key that erases to the left on a Mac. Check that the next heading and surrounding text still look right. Undo the edit if it removes content you meant to keep.

02Leave intentional section breaks in place

A section break can separate page layouts or numbering. If there is one by the blank page, test any deletion on a copy and compare the margins, headers, footers and page numbers on both sides. If there is no visible manual break and text starts on a new page, click into the first paragraph after the gap and check its page-break-before setting under Format → Line & paragraph spacing.

03If the blank page only appears when printing

Use File → Print and inspect the preview or the PDF the browser downloads. If you are using Pageless, switch to Pages before adjusting a layout meant for paper. If the exported file already has the extra page, check the document formatting again. If the preview or PDF has the right page count but the printer adds a sheet, check the print dialog and printer settings.
