Right-click the clock on the taskbar and choose Adjust date and time. Make sure Show time and date in the System tray is on, then check Show seconds in system tray clock (uses more power). Look at the clock on the taskbar to confirm that the seconds are ticking.
01Open Date & time directly if the clock is hidden
Section linkGo to Settings → Time & language → Date & time. Turn on the system tray clock first. If you only want hours and minutes later, uncheck the seconds option and leave the clock on. Windows labels the seconds option as using more power.
02Check the older location if the option is missing
Section linkOn earlier Windows 11 builds, Microsoft placed this option in Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Taskbar behaviors. Look there if the Date & time page does not have the checkbox. If you cannot find it in either place, check Windows Update for available updates. On a managed PC, ask your administrator which version and settings are available.
03Separate a display choice from a clock error
Section linkShowing seconds does not make an incorrect clock more accurate. If the hour or minute is wrong, check the time zone and automatic time settings on Date & time. If the time is right and you only wanted more detail on the taskbar, leave the time zone and synchronization settings alone.
