iPhone Photos isn’t showing the Duplicates album

The short answer

Look for Duplicates under Utilities in Photos. If it is missing on iOS 16 or later, leave the iPhone locked and connected to power. Duplicates appears only after Photos has indexed the library and found a match.

01Find Utilities in your Photos layout

Section link

Open Photos and go to Collections if your version has that tab, then find Utilities. If your app has an Albums tab instead, look for Utilities there. In a single scrolling Photos view, scroll down to Utilities. If Duplicates is already visible, open it to review the matches.

02Give Photos time to check the library

Section link

Lock the iPhone while it is charging. Apple says the scan can take a few days, depending on the library size and other background work. If Photos shows an indexing message, check again later. If it still finds no matches, the collection can stay hidden; two similar-looking shots do not guarantee a match.

03Review a set before merging

Section link

Open Duplicates and look at the items in a set. Choose Merge if you want to combine them. For photos, Apple says the merge keeps one item using the highest image quality and relevant data. The other copies move to Recently Deleted. Leave the set as it is if you want to keep both versions separately.
