With the car parked, select the CarPlay icon on its display. For wired CarPlay, use the vehicle’s CarPlay USB port and try a direct cable. For wireless CarPlay, turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the iPhone, then check Auto-Join for the car’s Wi-Fi network if it appears.
01If the iPhone charges but CarPlay never opens
Section linkLook for a CarPlay or phone icon next to the USB port, or check the vehicle manual for the port that supports CarPlay. Connect directly with a compatible cable that carries data. Charging only confirms that power is getting through. If you are using an adapter or hub, remove it from the connection and test again. Try another compatible cable or CarPlay USB port if you have one.
02If the car never appears for wireless setup
Section linkConfirm that the vehicle supports wireless CarPlay. For a wireless-only system, hold the voice command button on the steering wheel and put the stereo in wireless or Bluetooth pairing mode. Open Settings → General → CarPlay on the iPhone and select your car when it appears. If the vehicle supports both methods, Apple suggests starting with USB and accepting the wireless prompt when it appears on a later connection.
03If CarPlay used to work with this iPhone
Section linkRestart the iPhone and car, then check that Siri is on. If Screen Time restrictions are enabled, check Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions and make sure CarPlay is allowed. To start over with this car, go to Settings → General → CarPlay, select the car, tap Forget This Car, then set it up again. This removes the saved CarPlay connection. If setup still fails, check for an iOS update and ask the vehicle manufacturer about infotainment firmware and model or region compatibility.
