In Google Drive on the web, open Shared with me. If you can open the folder there, right-click it and choose Organize → Add shortcut, then select a location in My Drive. The shortcut opens the original shared folder and keeps its existing permissions.
01Check Shared with me and the active account
Section linkOpen Google Drive in a browser and select Shared with me in the sidebar. If you have both a work account and a personal account, check the profile icon and switch to the address that received the invitation. If you were sent a link, open the original link with that account and check whether the folder opens before looking for it under My Drive.
02Create the shortcut where you will look for it
Section linkRight-click the folder in Shared with me and choose Organize → Add shortcut. Pick My Drive or a folder inside it, then confirm. Open the destination and test the new shortcut. For example, a shortcut to a shared project under your own work folder opens the same shared project, including later changes. It does not create a separate copy.
03If the folder or shortcut still will not open
Section linkTry the original link again under the same account. If it asks for access, ask the owner to check that account’s permission. If you can open the parent folder but a subfolder is missing or greyed out, ask about that subfolder specifically; it may have limited access. Recreating the shortcut cannot restore access to the original.
