In desktop Firefox, open the Bookmarks Library before restoring a backup. If it contains only the default bookmarks, check whether Firefox opened a different profile. Save any bookmarks you have now before restoring an older set.
01Check whether the bookmarks are still in the Library
Section linkOpen the Firefox menu and choose Bookmarks, then Manage bookmarks. Look in the folders in the Library. If the bookmarks are there and only the toolbar is missing, right-click an empty part of the browser toolbar and turn the Bookmarks Toolbar back on. If you recently imported bookmarks, check the folder named for the browser they came from.
02Look in another Firefox profile
Section linkIf you see only default bookmarks after an update or reinstall, type about:profiles in the address bar. If another profile is listed, use its Launch profile in new browser button and check that window’s Library. Keep the profiles while you look. If your bookmarks are visible on another device, save a copy there before changing Sync settings. Check that both devices use the same Mozilla account and sync bookmarks.
03Save your current set before restoring
Section linkIn Manage bookmarks, open Import and Backup. Export your current bookmarks to HTML if you want to add them back later. Choose Restore and pick a dated backup from before the bookmarks disappeared. Confirm only after checking the backup date. Restore replaces the current bookmark set. To add the newer bookmarks back afterward, choose Import Bookmarks from HTML and open your export.
04Check for one more copy
Section linkIf Firefox was refreshed, look for an Old Firefox Data folder on the desktop. Keep it while you follow Mozilla’s recovery instructions. If there is no usable profile, synced copy or backup from when the bookmarks existed, Firefox may have nothing to recover.
