Deleting the Instagram app does not delete the account. Export anything you want to keep, choose the correct profile in account settings, and complete the account-deletion confirmation.
01Decide between a break and deletion
Section linkTemporary deactivation hides the profile until it is reactivated. Permanent deletion is a different action and should not be used as a temporary sign-out. Confirm that you can access the intended account before starting; account recovery may be necessary if you cannot sign in.
02Export before confirming deletion
Section linkIn the account settings area, look for Your information and permissions and the information-export controls. Select the intended Instagram profile, the data you need and an appropriate destination. Wait until the export is available, download it and inspect important files before relying on it as your copy. Protect the export because it can contain private information.
03Follow the settings branch you actually see
Section linkMeta is gradually changing account settings, so one fixed menu path does not fit every account. In Accounts Center, an older branch uses Personal details, Account ownership and control, then Deactivation or deletion. A branch with Profiles and personal details uses Manage for the account type before Deactivation or deletion. Select the intended profile, choose Delete account, and follow the final confirmation. Meta Account settings may present another layout.
04Keep the confirmation and cancellation deadline
Section linkRead the exact deadline and cancellation instructions displayed for your account and region. A cancellation window and the time needed to finish deletion are different. Meta says processing can take up to 90 days after it begins, and some backup or legally retained information may remain longer. Keep the confirmation securely. Do not assume an app uninstall completed the request, or that deleting one selected profile deletes every linked Meta account.
