For iOS 16 or later, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback and turn on Haptic. If you still feel no typing feedback, also check that Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Vibration is on.
01Enable the typing feedback you want
Section linkOpen Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback. Turn on Haptic for a tactile tap while typing. Sound is a separate switch for keyboard clicks, so turning on Sound alone does not enable vibration. You can choose the feedback you want without enabling both.
02Check the accessibility vibration switch
Section linkIf Haptic is already enabled but typing produces no taps, open Settings > Accessibility > Touch and check Vibration. Apple specifically points to this switch when keyboard haptics are enabled but cannot be felt. Return to the onscreen keyboard after changing it and compare the result.
03Test with the onscreen keyboard
Section linkOpen an app with a text field, tap that field and type using the iPhone onscreen keyboard. This keeps the check focused on the keyboard covered by Apple’s guidance. A connected physical keyboard or a different keyboard app is a separate case. You can also reach Keyboard Settings by touching and holding the keyboard-switch key while the onscreen keyboard is open.
04Record what still fails
Section linkApple notes that keyboard haptics can affect battery life. If feedback is still absent with both switches enabled, note the iOS version, the keyboard in use and whether the issue occurs in another text field before contacting Apple Support. These settings checks do not by themselves establish that a vibration component is faulty.
