Chrome tabs disappeared? Reopen the closed tab or window

The short answer

In a regular Chrome window in the profile you were using, press Ctrl + Shift + T on Windows or Linux, or Command + Shift + T on Mac. This can reopen a recently closed tab or window. If the shortcut cannot bring it back, check your other windows and then search History for the pages.

01Try the reopen shortcut in the same profile

Use the profile icon to check that you are in the same Chrome profile as before. Press the shortcut again if a different recently closed tab appears first. If you closed a whole window with several tabs, the shortcut can reopen the window while that entry is still available.

02Check for tabs that are still open

Section link

Use Tab Search to look for a word in the title. Check your other Chrome windows and expand any collapsed tab group. This is useful when Chrome has reopened but only the window you were looking at seems empty.

03Use History to recover individual pages

Section link

Open More → History → History and search for a site name or a word from the page title. This helps you find individual URLs even if Chrome can no longer restore the window. Check bookmarks if History has no match. Chrome does not keep Incognito browsing in History, and reopening a page does not guarantee that unsaved form text will return.

04Set Chrome to reopen your pages next time

Section link

To keep your regular pages between sessions, go to Settings → On startup → Continue where you left off. This changes future launches. Bookmark any important pages you recovered so you can find them even if the session is lost again.
