Mac missing from iPhone Screen Mirroring

The short answer

On your Mac, open System Settings → General → AirDrop & Continuity and turn on AirPlay Receiver. Some macOS versions call that menu AirDrop & Handoff. Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, then open Control Center → Screen Mirroring on the iPhone and look for the Mac.

01Check who can connect to the Mac

Look at Allow AirPlay for beside AirPlay Receiver. Current User limits access to devices signed in to your Apple Account. If the iPhone uses a different account and both devices are on a trusted Wi-Fi network, try Anyone on the Same Network. You can require a password and switch back to Current User when you’re done.

02AirPlay Receiver is missing

Check Apple’s AirPlay to Mac requirements for your Mac model and macOS version. The option is available on supported Macs with macOS 12 or later. If this is a work or school Mac, ask whether its management profile disables the receiver.

03The receiver is on, but the Mac is still missing

Keep both devices nearby and confirm they’re on the same Wi-Fi network. Restart both devices and check for software updates. Reopen Screen Mirroring and choose the Mac when it appears. Enter the AirPlay code or password on the iPhone if prompted.

04Test the iPhone Home Screen

After connecting, go to the iPhone Home Screen and swipe between pages. If the Mac shows those movements, screen mirroring is working. If you only have trouble with a particular video, try a photo or a different video app to see whether the issue is limited to that app or title.
