To record your voice, open Control Center, touch and hold Screen Recording, and turn on Microphone before starting a new clip. If you can hear your voice in a test clip but a particular app is silent, check the app separately. Some apps restrict what you can record.
01Play the original clip in Photos
Section linkOpen the screen recording on the iPhone that made it. Make sure playback is not muted and turn up the volume while it plays. Play a different video with sound on the same device. If that video is silent too, check playback before changing any recording settings. If only the screen recording is silent, test the source of the missing sound.
02Record a short test with Microphone on
Section linkIn Control Center, touch and hold Screen Recording, tap Microphone to turn it on, then tap Start Recording. Once the countdown ends, close Control Center and say a sentence while you are on the Home Screen. Stop recording and play the new clip in Photos. Turning on Microphone affects the next recording. It cannot put audio that was never captured into an old video.
03Test the app with content you can record
Section linkIf your voice is audible in the test, try a short clip of the app with sound you have permission to record. Turning on Microphone adds sound from around the phone. It does not force the app to include its own audio. If only that app is affected, look for its own recording or export option. Disconnect screen mirroring if you cannot start the recording at all.
04Check whether the microphone works outside screen recording
Section linkIf the new Home Screen clip still has no voice, open Voice Memos and record yourself speaking near the bottom of the phone. Play the memo. If that is also unclear, remove a case or film that covers a microphone opening and try again. If the memo sounds clear, check that Microphone is on just before making another screen recording. If the memo is still unclear, follow Apple’s microphone support steps.
