In Safari, open the individual article and tap the Page Menu next to the address field. Tap Show Reader if it appears. If it is missing, try a different article in Safari. Reader is available on supported pages; enabling it automatically does not make an unsupported page compatible.
01Open the article itself in Safari
Section linkIf you arrived from a message or social app, open the link in the Safari app so you can use Safari’s Page Menu. Tap through from the site’s homepage or search results to the article you want to read. Open the Page Menu on that page. If it offers Hide Reader, you are already in Reader and can tap it to return to the full page.
02Compare a page that offers Reader with the one that does not
Section linkTry an article from another site. If Show Reader appears there, Safari can use Reader and the missing action is specific to the original page. Reader extracts relevant text and images. A page built around an interactive tool or a list of links may not have an article view that Safari can extract.
03Use automatic Reader only where it helps
Section linkOn a supported site, open the Page Menu → Website Settings and turn on Use Reader Automatically, then tap Done. To apply the preference more broadly, open Settings → Apps → Safari → Reader and turn on All Websites. That switch applies to sites that support Reader. When you need the original layout, open the Page Menu and choose Hide Reader.
